All About the 2025 Price Increase
I recently raised the price on all new subscription levels. The new rates for Opening a Bottle are as follows:
Wine Lover (Annual) – $79/year (formerly Individual Annual, at $49/year)
Wine Lover (Monthly) – $9/month (formerly Individual Monthly, at $5/month)
Wine Industry Group – $199/year (formerly Professional Annual, at $139/year)
This price increase was necessary to support the full-time work this site requires, and to match the increased costs of producing it.
Effective April 1, 2025, all subscriptions will move to these rates. On this page, I explain (a) how there will be even more benefit to your Opening a Bottle subscription this year, (b) the process for opting in to these new rates, and (c) what will happen if you do not opt in.
Extra Coverage in 2025
I will now be reporting annually on the new wine release wine from Italy's three major wine regions: Piedmont (Barolo and Barbaresco), Tuscany (Chianti Classico and Brunello di Montalcino) and Sicily (Etna and beyond). To be invited to these regions annually means we're doing something right. This community is sought after, these winemakers want to connect with you, and I'm honored to continue to foster that.
Of course, I will continue to bring you more coverage of other significant Italian, French and Spanish wine regions as well, but this coverage of "the big three in Italy" will now serve as an anchor for our editorial while I scale up and form new partnerships and collaborations for the community.
Additionally, subscribers can now enjoy exclusive discounts to my photography and other partner services, by visiting the My Account page, where all discounts will be listed.
Process for Opting-In to New Prices
When you opt-in for the new pricing structure, my software will pro-rate the new subscription based on your future renewal date, and it will refund you the prorated balanced of your existing subscription. Here are the steps:
Log-in to Opening a Bottle
Click here for My Account or visit "My Account" in the navigation
Note your current subscription type and your expiration date, then click the text link "Change your subscription." It will be in red text under your subscription details.

A menu of the three new options will appear. Select the new tier you wish. If you are a monthly subscriber, now is a great time to save money and convert to a Wine Lover (Annual) subscription.

Once selected, you're done.
Check your email. You will receive an invoice with the pro-rated changes and charges.
Please contact me if you have any issues or questions.
If you'd like to cancel, follow the steps above, but once in My Account, select "cancel subscription."
What Will Happen After April 1, 2025?
On April 1, I will simply be removing the old price tiers from the site. You should continue to have access to the site for the entire period you have paid for, but recurring subscriptions — including monthly — will no longer renew on their own.
If you have not opted-in by this date, I will reach out to you directly to make the switch for you. However, it is best practice to have all users opt-in for these prices on their own.
Thank you for supporting this site and for your understanding,
Kevin Day
