A Trip to Collio & Friuli
I am excited to explore a new opportunity for in-person travel with the Opening a Bottle community. I have always aimed to make meaningful connections between wine lovers and wine producers, and now, I am ready to do that in-person.
To that end, I am considering my first group trip abroad to the Collio and Friuli region of Northeast Italy. This beautiful corner of the country is often overlooked, but I can honestly say that some of the best wines and cuisine reside here.

The Details As of Now
I am planning a small, 6- to 7-day tour of Friuli-Venezia Giulia for likely just 3 to 4 couples. Each day would include visits to one to two wineries, meals at local restaurants, guided vineyard walks, and optional cultural excursions — such as a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Cividale del Friuli and/or Palmanova.
The trip might include a cooking class or two, visits to other gastronomical producers, and even photo clinics in the vineyards. As a professional photographer, I would also make some of the trip’s images available as a special keepsake of our time.
Accommodations would be elegant and extremely comfortable, but not overly posh. They would also be ideally located for daily excursions and independent downtime. Local ground transport (airport transfers, winery visits, and daily outings) would be provided in an air-conditioned van, with a local trip coordinator assisting throughout.
