Etna's Most Rock-n-Roll Wine Maintains Its Edge
Tenuta di Trinoro | Passopisciaro | Sancaba
Founded by iconic winemaker, Andrea Franchetti, the three brands of Tenuta di Trinoro, Passopisciaro and Sancaba offer a modern yet distinctive interpretation of Tuscan and Sicilian wine.
In the 1980s, Andrea Franchetti — a Roman restauranteur with significant experience in the American wine trade — established Tenuta di Trinoro on several acres of pristine, wooded land in the southeastern corner of Tuscany. This remote and isolated area had not been previously known for wines, but he set to work, planting Bordeaux varieties with a special focus on Cabernet Franc. It wouldn't be until 1997 that he'd debut the first vintage, but it immediately garnered the wine world's attention.
However, Franchetti would crown his legacy in 2000 with the creation of Passopisciaro on the north slope of Mount Etna. A separate brand for Tuscan Pinot Noir, called Sancaba, would round out the company's offerings.
