Wine Scholar Guild
Founded in 2005, Wine Scholar Guild (WSG) is the only wine education provider to focus solely on the most influential wine regions of Europe, which made it immediately appealing to me when I first enrolled in their courses in 2018. I completed the Italian Wine Scholar™ program in 2019, and the French Wine Scholar™ program in 2020, and both were fundamental to my development as a wine writer.
How does it work? Through online, in person and study abroad certification programs, Wine Scholar Guild offers an immersive wine education that focuses as much on the culture of wine as it does the technical details. Their certifications set the industry standard with three distinct levels of study: Essentials, Scholar and Masters.
In addition to certification programs, WSG members are a part of an active global community which regularly connects through online events, forums and discussions, and which can access hundreds of hours of recorded content.
