Danilo Thomain
Why Danilo Thomain is Essential
Valle d'Aosta represents some of the most exciting yet elusive wines in Italy. The region is located on the southern drainage of Europe's roof — the Mont Blanc massif. Because of its small population, vertiginous slopes and tempestuous weather, viticulture is very limited. Yet these small pockets of mountain vines yield many exciting expressions, few more thrilling than the single wine produced by Danilo Thomain.
Working in the Enfer d'Arvier subzone of the Valle d'Aosta DOC, Thomain annually bottles a Petit Rouge of supreme power and elegance — no small feat considering how isolated this little pocket of terraced vines is. Thomain's only peers in Arvier can be found at the local co-op, as he is the only estate-bottler for miles. Yet working in traditional methods in the basement of his home, Thomain is able to render an etching of his mountain terroir in fine relief.

Danilo Thomain Valle d'Aosta Enfer d'Arvier
This may be the most authoritative taste you'll find of Petit Rouge, Valle d'Aosta's most important red grape. It tastes of tart little berries you foraged yourself and smoke, but it packs substantial power and intensity as well. Fans of Nebbiolo and Pinot Noir will certainly find the wine intriguing, yet distinctly unique.
