Volio Imports
The story of Volio Imports' founding is one we can all relate to, because we have all had a "wine epiphany." It's just that Charles Lazzara did something bold with his. He was a junior in college, studying abroad in Italy, when he experienced his epiphany in Chianti Classico. However, this epiphany took place at Poggerino, an estate I've visited and where I, too, was mesmerized by the genius of Piero Lanza's thoughtful craft. It was a moment Lazzara had a hard time shaking, and a few years later — at the age of 25 — he returned to propose his new import business to Lanza, who promptly became his first imported producer.
Today, Volio Imports represents more than 40 great wineries, including such superb Italian houses as Soldera, Il Marroneto, Stella di Campalto, Borgo del Tiglio, Berlucchi and, still-to-this-day, Poggerino.
